With occupy Wall Street Protests entering its fourth week it's about time Americans started to make their message clear. The protests are not about liberal or conservative, rather improving rights of every American. I'll make this simple - leave where Roosevelt left off.
First, bring jobs back to America. When I was back in college I wrote a paper defending outsourcing since an American made company who has its factories here in America simply cannot compete with corporations abroad. This is due to several reasons. First being that workers in America received higher wages and better benefits. The second being that China manipulates it's currency thereby lowering the cost of their exports to Americans. For these reasons a Chinese company will always win in business against an American based company since the cost of creating and selling that product will always be less expensive.
The solution to this was that more and more American jobs went overseas. And that's exactly what happened - 2.9 million jobs were lost. The better solution is to impose a 25% tariff on all imports. Therefore American based companies are able to compete with companies overseas. This would create jobs in the states as well as building a self sustained economy. Fast track to today where according to Gallup found that just 6 percent of Chinese said there were times in the past 12 months when they lacked enough money for food for themselves or their family, compared to 19 percent of Americans.
A better minimum wage. Is wall street telling us that a janitor who cleans up all your crap after you isn't working hard enough? Americans have the right to a decent living no matter what education level. I'd also like to add that be it janitor or an American with disabilities they are earning less than a prison inmate according to the state. This is because the national average to house an inmate per year is around $50,000. How much does an American with disabilities earn - $8,400.
Medicare for all. I thought this was a country of values yet it's okay for large corporations to profit from the ill. Americans pay on average 30% more on healthcare than the rest of the world, yet we're #42 on the quality of healthcare behind Slovenia.
